Teaching Shout-Out Nominations
Katie Bichnell and Alison Bailey |
I’d like to acknowledge the contribution of Dr Katie Bicknell and Prof. Alison Bailey. Katie works in economics and statistics, and Alison is charge of farm management and all other spreadsheet affairs. Alison's and Katie's expertise is paired with an ability to make complex concepts accessible, engaging, and genuinely enjoyable. Students consistently describe them as fair, supportive, and brilliantly funny. Yet both bring a no-nonsense clarity that keeps everyone focused and accountable. What makes them particularly remarkable is the multii-cultural depth they bring to teaching. They navigate diverse learning contexts with ease and respect, drawing on a wealth of lived experience. Katie was one of the earliest adopters of AI embracement in teaching within our faculty. Alison never fails to impress me how she handles the 250 farm kids. They may not always realise it, but Katie and Alison are role models for many younger female colleagues who look at them as an example of how to teach with rigor, compassion, and confidence. Both strengthen our programs, our learners, and our LU community |
David Dyason, Alan Renwick, Tim Baird, Meike Rombach, Maryam Kahil, Ed Percy, Nic Lee, Pieter Henricks, Rob Radic, Wim de Koning, Rainer Hoffman, Anita Wreford, Mohini Vidwans and Allanah Robinson |
I am nominating all colleagues who were involved to "ideas on tap". Extending the classroom beyond its walls, you turn a regular night at the bar into a space of learning, dialogue, and discovery. By bringing teaching and research together in a public setting, you made knowledge accessible and engaging for the wider community. This creative approach not only showcases academic excellence but also demonstrated how education can inspire beyond campus. Fostering genuine connections between learners, researchers, and the public. A true celebration of learning in action! |
Meike Rombach |
Shout-out to Meike Rombach for being a very dedicated lecturer and colleague. She puts so much effort into both her teaching and research, and is always looking for ways to make learning more engaging. She's also always eager to share practices with colleagues whether that's organising workshops and events, or passing on tips and ideas from courses she’s been on. Thank you Meike! |
Latasha Hastie |
An extra special shout-out to Tash Hastie for being an absolute rock and an invaluable tutor support across our 200- and 300-level MGMT courses this year. Her reliability, good humour, and genuine care for Lincoln students have made a huge difference, and these courses simply wouldn’t have been possible without Tash’s up-front and behind-the-scenes work on everything from field trips and tutorials to resource creation, marking and moral support. Tash has taken absolutely everything in her stride, is always willing to jump in, and is so generous and patient with her time and knowledge. What makes all this even more commendable is that she’s still a student herself! Tash, you’ve made a huge difference to everyone around you. We’ll miss you lots and wish you all the very best in your exciting new role as a dairy consultant in Southland - they’re very lucky to have you! |

David Gabauer |
David embodies stamina and what true academic integrity looks like. In a time when education faces new challenges, from AI misuse to increasing pressure on students, you continue to hold the line for fairness, authenticity, and genuine learning. You care deeply about maintaining academic standards, not for the sake of rules, but because you believe every student deserves a fair and honest learning environment. Your decisions may not always be the easiest or the most popular, but they are guided by justice, compassion, and a strong sense of responsibility to the integrity of education. You are supportive of those who struggle, who persist, and who do their own work with honesty and effort. By doing so, you remind us of all that fairness and care are not opposites. They are the foundation of good teaching. |

Pablo Gregorini |
During my recent oral conversation test, I was extremely nervous and struggled to get any words out (some stress tears were shed). Instead of letting me flounder, he was incredibly supportive and understanding, which immediately put me more at ease. His kindness and reassurance created such a safe environment for me where I felt comfortable enough to gather my thoughts and answer the questions. This experience reminded me how much of a difference compassion and empathy can make in teaching, and I am deeply grateful for his encouragement and support. |
Chloe Dunne |
Chloe is not just a committed teacher, she opens the real-world door for her students. This includes connections with growers, helping students to get opinion pieces to get published in Farmers Weekly. Guest lecturers and workshops with rural media and even pushing the best of her undergraduate students and getting them to present at the PINZ conference. The combination of outreach, teaching and facilitating student experience makes her a star among the AGCM land-based people!! |

Anthony Brien |
I would like to thank the great work that your staff member Anthony Brien does for your course of BMGT116. The extent that Anthony goes to making sure that everyone is up to speed and on-top of their work is unmatched by any other lecturer I have had. Even just as simple as walking around the lecture theatre at the beginning of the lecture before it begins catching up with everyone and seeing how they are doing really make a difference. He goes into real depth when explaining concepts which make it very clear to understand and the wealth of actual real world knowledge of the working environment is really a strength that puts him above all of the other lecturers. Many thanks. |
Hannah Lee |
Hannah is an incredibly supportive lecturer. I have a disability and need adaptations and flexibility, Hannah supplies these with a smile. She believes fully in her students, and does everything she can to make sure we succeed. |
Misaki Yoshimura |
Misaki is a newer member of the APP teaching team. She always goes out of her way to understand student needs and support students in an individualized way. She is highly professional and really engaged as an educator. She cares deeply about her learners, is eager to always learn herself, and embodies students at our core. |
Mike Lyne, Simeone Kaitibie, Meike Rombach, Sharon Lucock |
A strong sense of duty towards the MGMT 699/698 students and other post-graduate students in the AGCM faculty. You give praise and insightful criticism that help students to develop their industry placements and research projects. |
Shannon Davis |
Shannon is an exceptionally organised and dedicated examiner who brings clarity and enthusiasm to everything she does. Her delivery of Landscape Planning is consistently of the highest standard, earning very positive feedback from students. Despite being one of the most challenging courses in our BLA/MLA programmes, Shannon delivered the course with impressive clarity and simplicity, enabling students to engage deeply and confidently. Her ability to make complex topics accessible without compromising on depth is a true testament to her teaching skills and commitment. |

Hadrian Taylor, Craig Nicholson and Brent Richards |
I would like to nominate Hadrian, Craig ( ltl team) and Brent from the nursery. I want to thank you for the good work we did together. Hadrian and Craig inspired me to build extra tasks and tutorials that make undergraduate students better writers and allow them successful navigate their first research and writing experience. Thank you for help, time and tutorials, that serve as a building block for students and my work. Brent, thank you for accommodating my crazy ideas, looking after my pet plant, helping me to demonstrate ( my stiff wrist does not allow me), for the good team work we do on the nursery tour. Thank you for being a part of the Hort 107 team. The last 6 years were awesome and I hope for many more to come. A successful course is run by team and Brent, Hadrian and Craig, are as important as every academic. |
Racheal Bryant |
Racheal's feedback on my manuscripts for my thesis is incredibly useful (all you other postgrads will be so jealous). She lets me know what I could improve on, explains what is wrong with it and she sometimes provides an example of how I might like to do that. I feel like this is exactly what I need to learn how to improve my writing. I am very grateful to her for the time she has been putting in to help me. |
Nazmun Ratna |
You are "Mother Lion" to your postgraduate students. Fair, transparent and caring for them as a person and future professional, making sure that they deliver quality work and are competent. |
Victoria Rosin |
Victoria is kind, competent and quick. She is an awesome advisor with who it is so good to talk teaching, brainstorm ideas or get reassurance. I appreciate the fact that she has a doctorate in education, stood herself in the classroom and knows what she is doing. You support not only practical teaching but also research. You help so many of us. |
Chloe Dunne |
Chloe is such a bright and bubbly lecturer and helped significantly in our recent [assessment], going over and above for our class even in after hours. Genuinely reduced our stress levels and made something which was quite daunting suddenly be almost enjoyable to work on. She also handled a large class very well, especially considering she's a new lecturer! Overall really enjoyed our time being taught by her :) |
Mark Wilson |
For sharing fantastic work experience combination of defense force, Christian ministry/church leadership & academia. |
Puneet Vatsa |
He is a great teacher. … Provides students strong logic to understand the main theory of courses. … Puneet always gives help when we need it. |
David Dean |
There is no better teacher, collaborator and mentor ... Advice on how to survive in the system, climbing the career ladder, being a more approachable colleague and supervisor to my own post-graduate students, are some of the good outcomes. |
Peter Almond |
Thank you for your dedication to your students and for bringing out our highest potential! |
Pablo Gregorini |
His ability to lecture, offer support and help with assignments while going through tremendous personal strife is admirable. |
Hiraina Tangiora |
Your approachable and your kind personality made it easy to interact with you. ... the cultural aspects you bring into lectures and interaction are valuable. You provide a safe place to ask for cultural advice and help. You reduce fears and reservation actively. ... You help to facilitate acceptance and change organically. |
Anh Le |
Anh explains the workings first for the whole class and then checks the students and helps those who need it individually. Anh has helped me to understand concepts in FINC which I originally found difficult. When I ask Anh to help me with a question, he teaches me how to apply what we have learned to answer questions. Every student leaves the class learning something valuable. Anh goes above and beyond to help out his students. |
Orchard Team |
The entire team (Ag, Forestry and Hort) is committed to learning. This demonstrates itself through industry involvement, knowing students by name, line up at our offices. Students speak highly about delivery and individuals. Learning and wellbeing-related research, student-centered delivery, facilitation of experiential learning and learning ambassadorship. In a nutshell: modern land-based teaching preparing students for a career in primary industries. |
Jill Rice |
You are extremely kind, competent, and foremost always available for staff and students. Students trust you and seek your advice on assignments and budgets. Your friendly personality is well appreciated in lectures, labs, and on tour. Thank you for all you do for us. |
Oluwafemi Olajide |
Excellent engagement in classes. Provided helpful advice. Made the environment very light when tensed by his witty and advising nature. He needs to be thanked. |
Stuart Charters |
Stuart Charters is not only a fabulous educator but a leader. He leads the MAC course for Lincoln which has one of the highest postgrad intakes and takes everything in his stride despite how busy he is and the lack of resource available to such an important and high-course demand environment. I am very proud of the work Stuart undertakes for the university which is helping to put Lincoln on the map. |
Faith Jeremiah |
Faith works super hard to make sure every lecture/lesson is fun and enjoyable, the way she teaches engages all her students and it helps us retain knowledge and information, she has real world experience unlike many other lecturers and does what she teaches. She is always open for discussion and wants the best for her students, she is easily approachable and is someone us students trust to talk about our assignments with. She gives constructive criticism and also helped me learn a lot. Would recommend her teaching to anyone, she is such a professional and made my subject very enjoyable as I learnt heaps. |
Gagan Jain, Campbell Kerr and Jill Reader |
The Orchard team is keeping a low profile! It is great to co-teach with all of you. You work the extra miles without complaint! You are transparent, fair and knowledgeable in your delivery. You are helpful and kind towards students and colleagues. You get students ready for industry. And while a lot of people think this is the basic requirement, you must be commended for this. Because you are here for the students. |
Tim Baird |
Was always happy and cheerful in every lecture no matter the time day or weather he kept the same energy every lesson it made the class more enjoyable even if it was 3 hrs. |
Hamish Rennie |
We only chatted last yr...he's full of energy, gently steered me making me feel welcome enough to join another Lincoln PG course. |
