We offer holistic, personalised study advice and support for all Lincoln University students.

University life is full of opportunities, challenges, and plenty to learn along the way. At Lincoln, we understand that success isn’t just about grades — it’s about feeling supported, confident, and connected throughout your academic journey. That’s where Academic Success comes in.

We offer personalised, practical support to help tauira get the most out of study — whether you're working toward a Diploma or a PhD. Our approach is grounded in manaakitaka, collaboration, and a genuine commitment to your development as a learner, and your wellbeing.

How we can help:

  • Study skills for university – From getting organised and navigating digital spaces to note-taking, critical thinking, and reading effectively, we’ll help you build strong foundations.
  • Assessment advice – Whether it’s a report, case study, oral/video presentation, test or exam, we’ll guide you through what’s expected and how to approach it with confidence.
  • Writing and referencing – We’ll support you to express your ideas clearly, structure your work effectively, and use sources with integrity.
  • Research support – We’re here to assist with research design, advanced information searching, thesis writing, and guidance throughout your postgraduate research journey.
  • Maths and statistics – We’ll help you build your confidence with numbers, data, and problem-solving.
  • Peer Led Learning - StudySMART
  • Holistic support – if life circumstances are affecting your study, we’re here to listen, help you make a plan, connect you with the right supports, and work alongside you to keep you moving forward.

You don’t have to figure it all out alone. Explore this website for resources and tips, or reach out for one-to-one support. However big or small the question, we’re here — ready to walk alongside you with respect, care, and a shared commitment to your success.

StudySMART

StudySMART* is a Lincoln University program run by tauira leaders to help you achieve your educational goals. Weekly interactive sessions are attached to core first year courses for undergraduate tauira at LU. Sessions are facilitated by undergraduate student leaders who know the course material and what it takes to do well in that course. You get the chance to pick their brains and share your thoughts outside the formality of the lecture theatre.

StudySMART gives you the chance to:

  • Discuss and share ideas and concepts in an informal space.  During StudySMART sessions, leaders facilitate fun and interactive pair, group and whole class activities. You will develop your understanding of the subject and pick up new ways to study.
  • Meet other tauira and have fun while studying. StudySMART helps you to support each other now while you are studying, but also to build professional networks for your future career.
  • Achieve better grades. At Lincoln University, results consistently show that tauira who attend StudySMART regularly get better results on average than those who do not attend.
  • Arrive at answers for yourself.  StudySMART Leaders facilitate a better understanding of the subject and encourage you to arrive at answers for yourself. You will deepen your knowledge of your course content as you learn from and with each other.
  • Be proactive, gain confidence and feel in control of your learning. These sessions will not only help you grow academically but also in confidence and as a person.
So how do I attend StudySMART?

Check out your Akoraka | Learn course page for more information by clicking on the StudySMART logo on the right-hand side menu. StudySMART sessions start in Week 2 of semester 1 and 2.

* StudySMART was previously known as PASS (Peer Assisted Study Sessions).
